RUDI MONASTERY
According to a legend, an old man regained his sight thanks to water from a local spring. Another tells that Prince Grigore Ghica, who fell ill, would have regained his health in these places thanks to the wine, the spring and the prayers of religious. Rudi's monastery was built in 1777 and his church of the Holy Trinity was built from 1774 to 1777. Its plan is in cloverleaf, its dimensions are imposing, 17.70 m by 12.30 m, and almost 9 m high. The facade consists of two rows of arches, reducing the monotony, but accentuating the monumental side of the church. In 1829 nuns replaced the monks who were sent to Călărășeuca but the monastery of Rudi was closed in 1846 by order of the ecclesiastical authorities. Left abandoned for many years, the site deteriorated.
The monastery reopened on October 24, 1921 and in 1925 the church was completely restored. It was at this time that the buildings, cells and annexes visible today were built. A building with a medieval appearance was built between 1930 and 1935 by the architect Valentin Voițehovschi and served as a school of theology. The monastery was closed by the Soviet authorities and transformed into a sanatorium for children. It resumed its activity in 1992 and renovations began. It is very interesting to see the work of the nuns, the way they take great care of their vegetable garden, their geometric garden and their beautiful red strawberry fields contrasting with the surroundings of a dark forest.
