ST. DIMITRIU CHURCH
The church of St. Dumitru is located 250 m from the Dniestr and 600 m northeast of the fortress. With its three domes, this church overlooking the town was built from 1814 to 1827 in a Moldavian and neoclassical architectural style with elements of Russian Baroque. This typical style can be found in many of the country's churches dating from the 19th and 20th centuries. Its construction was ordered by Nicolae Cerchez, owner of Bujărăuca. The church has a cross floor plan with four antique style pediments at each end and visible on the outside. The capitals of the columns are more or less inspired by the Ionic order. The entrance is surmounted by a bulbous bell tower topped by a spire. The iconostasis and the frescoes, especially those in the dome, are magnificent in their colours and the finesse of the work. Scenes from the biblical story, angels, the apostles and many Christian saints can be seen. The church was restored in the 1970s and the building is under the protection of the Moldavian state.
The church can be identified by its opal green/cobalt-green dome and bell tower. A few trees and a small garden surround the building. The place is quiet and particularly beautiful in winter. 600 m to the south-west, near the fortress, is the church of the Dormition-de-la-Mère-de-Dieu, whose architectural elements and roof are similar to those of the church of Saint-Dumitru. Don't forget to dress decently when you visit the country's churches or monasteries.
