The village of Ciumai is mentioned in a 1807 document. In 1811, 196 settlers from the south of the Danube settled there. In 1816, 147 other people settled there. The Ciumai enterprise dates back to 1905, when the estates of Covaletti, Weismann and Zahariadi, wealthy landowners in the area, merged to form a wine factory. In 1940 it was renamed Ciumai. Nowadays, Ciumai is a modern industrial unit that produces 14 types of dry, sweet and dense wines. Ciumai's wine library, founded in 1944, contains about 20,000 bottles. The vineyards cover 170.73 ha and the estate has modern production technologies. The grape varieties cultivated are Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Muscat Ottonel, Merlot and Traminer. The business card of this company is the Ciumai wine (of the Cahors type) and the sweet wine Perla de Ciumai. Ciumai Cabernet has won eight gold and nine silver medals at various international wine competitions. Noroc red wine has won three gold and three silver medals in various similar competitions. For your information, Ciumai Cahors 1986 is a collector's red wine, produced by Mileştii Mici (500 lei per bottle). Ciumai wines can be found in some local shops and at the duty free shop at the capital's airport.
The Ialpug River is 500 m east of the estate and the local church is 200 m south of the estate. Less than 1 km away you can see the Ukraine.
