MUSEUM OF HISTORY AND ETHNOGRAPHY
The museum is located in the centre of the town, on a tree-lined square, in a building of neoclassical architecture. It deals with the history of the country, of Gagauzia, and presents nearly 18,000 pieces, elements and objects of daily peasant life. There are objects dating from the Russian-Turkish wars of the 18th century and others from the 19th century and the Soviet period. The museum was created in 1973 and was initially housed in the Maison de la culture. It was moved in 1975 to these premises which were the House of the "Pioneers", the Soviet youth organization. In the museum you can admire typical peasant interiors of southern Moldavia with many carpets, embroideries, cushions, blankets, handicrafts, looms, old tools, traditional costumes. You can also see ancient weapons, puzzles, old topographical maps, letters and other historical documents. The entire collection and the presentation of the region's past owe much to the efforts of the museum's director, Vasily Malchev, who also fought for municipal authorities to help him renovate the museum. The building is old and hasn't been spared by time
To the south of the museum is the central park where the river Cahul flows. To the north you can see a newly built church and to the east the Afghan Park, named after veterans of the 1979-1989 Afghan War.
