The Empress market is one of the most popular markets in Karachi. You will find mainly fruits, vegetables, fish and meat but also clothes and trinkets of all kinds. The place is a little chaotic, teeming with life and colourful, but that's what makes it so charming. The building that houses the majority of the stalls was built between 1884 and 1889 in a Gothic-Mogul style. The Empress market owes its name to Queen Victoria, then Empress of India.
