WORKHOUSE
A historic building that bears witness to bygone eras, home to Colmar's Museum of Natural History and Ethnography.
In the heart of the Small Venice area, currently housed in the museum of natural history and Ethnography in Colmar, this building has crossed through eras and has sheltered various institutions. In 1467, the city was already owner, but was inhabited by a stone suit. From 1604, the building housed military bodies and then the municipal chancery; From 1810 to 1866 this building served as mayor and finally a higher school for girls. It is from 1984 that the museum is still being visited. By bypassing the main building in rue de Turenne, then the rue des Weavers, you are faced with a curious wall: that of stone cutters whose sculpted niches and capitals are all details that carry us on the paths of history. Who would say whether it was a ancel workshop or a box for stone cutters?
