Museum showing Bartholdi's working methods

Housed in the superb residence where Auguste Bartholdi was born on August 2, 1834, this museum highlights the life and work of this major French sculptor of the 19th century. The scenography features original models of his masterpieces: the Lion of Belfort, the Statue of Liberty... and other sculptures, drawings, paintings and photographs. The tour also includes a superb reconstruction of the sculptor's apartment. To book a guided tour, contact the Bartholdi Museum or the Colmar Tourist Office.

The birthplace of sculptor Auguste Bartholdi, the structure was updated and turned into a museum. Full of images and smaller sculptures and studies of the artists creations. You'll be thinking, why does that name ring a bell? Yes, Bartholdi is best known for having created the Statue of Liberty (New York) and the Lion of Belfort (Paris) among other works.

Expect to take about an hour to tour the three stories of furniture, models, paintings and photos. Note that the museum closes for lunch.
