In the port area, a stone's throw from the centre, La Recova is a magnificent building designed in 1850 by the Italian architect Alejandro Ravizza. It is one of the most traditional places to buy handicrafts and souvenirs, and has been so since the 1940s, when the port was the place through which many visitors arrived or left Asunción. The picturesque setting still attracts tourists and the old stalls follow one another under the high arcades. After shopping, you can treat yourself to a fruit juice or eat typical food on site.
