A Catholic feast celebrated in a very special way in Paraguay, with the cross and... the inescapable chipa as symbols!
The Feast of the Cross is a Catholic tradition celebrated all over the world, but with a very special touch in Paraguay. The Kurusu Ára consists of placing a cross in a grotto or niche, made of laurel branches and decorated with peanut rosaries and hanging chipas, as on a Christmas tree. After a celebration in which tribute is paid to the deceased, the chipas are distributed among the participants. Rue Teodoro Mongelós, in Asunción, is famous for the chipas altar prepared by the Antar family every year since 1932.
