The small Afro-descendant community of Kamba Kuá celebrates the African Wizard King with joyful dances and explosive drums.
Kamba Kuá is a district of Fernando de la Mora (suburb of Asunción), symbol of the African culture in Paraguay. This community of 2,500 inhabitants is descended from former African slaves who arrived 200 years ago from Uruguay, accompanying the libertador José Gervasio Artigas in his exile. Kamba Kuá has preserved its traditions through music and dance. On January 6, Saint Balthazar, the African Magician King, is celebrated. A great festival with candombe presentations, hectic dances to the rhythm of the tamborilles (drums).
