The "château" is set in a large estate hidden behind high walls. Construction began in the 19th century, at the request of Francisco Solano López and Elisa Lynch. The property subsequently passed through the hands of other wealthy families. In 1904, Carlota Palmerola inaugurated the building, a blend of neoclassical and neo-Gothic styles. In the mid-twentieth century, the property was bequeathed to the Dominican Sisters, who have their retirement home next door. The castle's museum exhibits objects and furniture belonging to the Palmerola family.
