The church is named after the continent's first saint, a native of Peru. It retains the altarpiece of the original temple (1698), destroyed by fire in 1883. The small stone tower to the right of the church, which houses the bell tower, dates back to the time of the reduction. Underneath this tower is an underground passageway leading to the Plaza de Santa María de Fe... The church, which has been closed since 2020, is due to reopen shortly after a major restoration to turn it into a museum.
