On September 22, 1866 the greatest Paraguayan victory against the allies took place in Curupaytý. The battle pitted 5,000 Paraguayans against 20,000 Brazilians and Argentinians. On the site there are still a few trenches and a monument to General José Eduvigis Díaz, who led the Paraguayan operations, but not much more. Curupaytý is located 12 km from Humaitá on private property. Unless you're a history buff, there's not much point in traveling.
