Carnival is celebrated all over Paraguay, but the most eagerly awaited is Encarnación, on 5 consecutive Saturdays.
Carnival is celebrated all over the country, but the most important one is in Encarnación. The Corsos Encarnacenos take place on five Saturdays, at the Sambódromo, a closed course with a capacity for 12,000 people. The best neighbourhood clubs parade along the 440-metre-long track surrounded by bleachers, competing in different categories, including the election of the Carnival Queen. The colourful shows thrill the public to the rhythm of the batucadas. The party also takes place in the street and on the beach, with big battles of foam and water.
