LAGO DE LA REPÚBLICA
In the Boquerón district, a 10-minute walk from shopping centres and traffic jams, there is an artificial lake created in the 1960s by blocking the road to the Amambay River. The lake is surrounded by a pleasant park, where the inhabitants come to stretch out and where cultural activities are sometimes organized. The park is frequented during the day, but should be avoided in the evening or on Sunday afternoons when no one is around. There are some beautiful houses nearby, in Area 1, originally intended for the engineers and managers of the Itaipú dam.
