The museum is located in a colonial house, formerly a Jesuit school. At the end of the War of the Triple Alliance, Santaní became the ephemeral capital of Paraguay, from August 23 to 31, 1869. The school was converted into the headquarters of Marshal Lopez. After the war, it was transformed into a police station, then into a post office, and finally into a historical museum in 1970. Weapons and objects from the Guerra Guazú and some Jesuit statues are exhibited there.
