Punta Porã was a bucolic place where carts used to stop to transport mate and other goods. A shady site, with small lagoons, including the one known today as the "Laguna Punta Porã", the last one that remains in the middle of the city. At the end of the 19th century, buildings began to appear around this popular stopover for travellers, and then over the decades, a whole town. The surroundings of the lagoon were developed in the 1970s and "la laguna" is nowadays the favourite place to relax.
