LA HALLE COUVERTE
Built in 1883 by Amédée Hédin d’Alençon on the site of the town’s former cemetery.
Built in 1883 by Amédée Hédin d'Alençon and located at the foot of Saint-Germain church, the Halle now houses the covered market on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The building, with its remarkable brick and ashlar architecture, was erected on fir piles. The name of the plaque affixed to the alleyway adjoining the Halle is an unusual one: "rue de la Halle, commonly known as rue des femmes qui pissent". When public latrines didn't exist, shopkeepers used to relieve themselves in this alley. Fortunately, times have changed!
