The remains of Hattuşaş, the former Hittite capital, and Yazılıkaya (a religious rock shrine) stretch across the plains of Anatolia. The former cover a vast perimeter surrounded by pierced ramparts including the Royal Gate (Yerkapı) and the Lion Gate, the ruins of the temple dedicated to Teschup (goddess of the storm), ancient palaces and restored walls . The former Hittite centre has been incorporated into the national park. Boğazkale is the best base to visit these sites.
