LADY OF THE CAMELLIAS MUSEUM
Discover a museum dedicated to the Lady of the Camellias, housed in the medieval château of Gacé.
This small museum in the Château de Gacé has a real charm all of its own. The heroine of Alexandre Dumas' novel, based on Alphonsine Plessis dite Marie Duplessis, born in 1824 in Nonant-le-Pin (12 km from Gacé), grew up in extreme poverty before becoming one of Paris' most famous courtesans. Through engravings, paintings, objects and costumes, we discover the destiny of this woman who died of tuberculosis at the age of 23, and who became the muse of the city.
