LUTHERAN CHURCH OF THE VIRGIN MARY
The Lutheran Church of the Virgin Mary in Otepää plays an important role in the country's history.
The church of Otepää, which dates from the 17th century, plays an important role in the history of the country. It was here that the blue, black and white flag of the Estonian Students' Union was first flown in 1884. At the back of the church is the independence memorial, which was destroyed during the Soviet occupation and restored in 1989. The three dwarf oak trees next to the church were planted in 1992 at a meeting of the leaders of the three Baltic states.
