TORRE VELLA
Defense tower to prevent pirate attacks, built by order of the Archbishop of Tarragona in Salou
It was under the order of the Archbishop of Tarragona in 1530, Peter of Cardona, that a defensive tower was built to prevent pirate attacks on the Bay of Salou, attracted by the intense commercial activity. The exterior of the building has retained its original appearance (note the coat of arms engraved above the main door) - the tower was connected to the annexed buildings by a bridge - while the interior has been converted into a cultural space that occasionally hosts temporary art exhibitions.
