SALOU LIGHT
Lighthouse with a light beam visible up to 14 nautical miles away, open to the public every day until sunset
Standing there since 1858, the Salou lighthouse with its red tower was originally powered... by olive oil (!), giving off a beam of light visible up to 14 nautical miles away. Two guards were then permanently in charge of running the machine. Today, if a more recent technology has taken over to illuminate the Gulf of San Jordi of the Costa Daurada, the silhouette of the lighthouse has remained the same. Walkers who have reached the lighthouse can visit it. The building is open to the public every day until sunset.
