The French had built a railway line on Don Det and Don Khone to cross the numerous Mekong Falls, and thus be able to transport goods across the river. It is on Don Khone that two small locomotives can still be admired, and some of the rails were used by the locals to build... fences. On these two islands there are two old ports used for freight. On Don Khone, you can still see French buildings, such as houses or an old school, and especially the famous bridge linking the two islands.
