BEACHES (PLAYAS EN EL PUERTO)

For bathing and sunbathing, depending on the weather and wind conditions, the following two beaches in El Puerto de Santa María are the most advisable: west of the town center, the playa de Santa Catalina, in the El Ancla area, and further down, the playa de la Muralla, west of Puerto Sherry, home to the remains of the wall built during the struggle against Napoleon's warlike madness. Closer to the city and the Río Guadalete estuary, playa de la Puntilla is more recommended for its beach chiringuitos, such as the family-run El Castillito (founded in 1956), and its tasty grilled fish, than for swimming!
