FORTIFICATIONS

Some of the ancient fortifications remain on the hill closest to the old town. You can climb through a covered passage on one of these walls, from the small and charming district of the Beutau (linked to the Marktplatz by a passage under the Augustiner Strasse) until the main defence tower (Dicker Turm). Another path (Burgsteige) passes through vineyards.
