Old center that occupies a tiny and steep territory, between the cornice and the port in Guetaria

The old centre occupies a tiny and steep territory, between the cornice and the port. It is a pleasure to walk among the small houses, the Gothic and Baroque towers, the discreet palaces, the charming mansions and the industrial buildings. The church of San Salvador (15th century), a jewel of Gothic art, was built on the site where the General Assembly of 1397 decreed the birth of the province of Gipuzkoa. Juan Sebastián Elcano, who made the first circumnavigation of the globe between 1549 and 1522, was baptised in this parish.
