KLOSTER NEUZELLE - NEUZELLE ABBEY
Founded in the century, the abbey was burnt down during the Thirty Years' War, then rebuilt in Baroque style between 1655 and 1658.
This is a Cistercian abbey founded in the 13th century. But it burned down during the Thirty Years' War. It was then the opportunity to rebuild the abbey in a flamboyant South German baroque style, unique in the region. The construction took place from 1655 to 1658. One will be astonished by this sumptuous counter-reform style in a Land renowned as a Mecca of Lutheranism. The Church of St. Mary is a baroque festival: ornaments, swirling columns, golden suns, marble cherubs..
