The castle of the Landgraves or the counts of Hesse was built in its present form from the end of the th century, with several elements of the th century, including the Wilhelmsbau connected to the main body by an covered footbridge. The various bodies of the castle, passing through the Fürstensaal, are an extraordinarily large banquet room for the time. The Wilhelmsbau houses a museum of art history, featuring sculptures, furniture, religious objects etc., from the bronze age to the contemporary age.
