Built in 1988, the Essen opera house was designed by the renowned Functionalist Finlandais architect Alvar Aalto. This is one of his most famous (posthumous) achievements outside Finland. With its simple and irregular form, its futuristic liner air and its excellent acoustics, the Essen opera house is an exceptional achievement.
