KLOSTERKIRCHE - ABBEY CHURCH
Elegant, simple late-Gothic abbey church built in 1435 on the banks of the Mulde River in Grimma.
Built in 1435 in a late Gothic style, on the banks of the Mulde river, the abbey church of Grimma looks good. Together with the Lycée Saint-Augustin, which adjoins it on the banks of the river, both forming a remarkable ensemble, it is the city's most famous building. Originally belonging to an Augustinian hermitage, it was secularized during the Reformation, which quickly gained Grimma. It then became the chapel of the princely high school, was deconsecrated during the communist era and became a parish church after the fall of the Wall. It is a fairly simple and relatively low silhouette building, but with very elegant lines. Its vaulted interior, with its wooden balustrades, is unmistakable.
