BAUHAUS BUILDING
This school building, in which the most prestigious teachers taught, now houses a museum dedicated to the movement.
The famous Bauhaus building, constructed in 1925, stands in the middle of a quiet tree-lined avenue. Until 1932, the most prestigious professors - Kandinsky, Klee, Moholy-Nagy, Gropius, Schlemmer, etc. - taught all artistic disciplines here, making the Bauhaus the founding place of a conception of modernity. It was from here that the development of Bauhaus architecture and design began, with Dessau as its guinea pig. Today, the building houses a museum dedicated to the movement. It is very well designed, with an interesting exhibition tracing the history of the movement and featuring works by those who taught there. There are also temporary exhibitions of contemporary art, architecture and design, as well as retrospectives. The school lives on through international courses and seminars. Nice café in the basement, open Monday to Friday 8am to midnight, Saturday 10am to 1am and Sunday 10am to 10pm
Bauhaus Museum: The new building opened in September 2019 (Mies-van-der-Rohe-Platz 1). This site presents the second-largest collection of works by this famous artistic movement. It marks the centenary of the Bauhaus school, founded in 1919. The museum specializes in the history of the architectural movement and its originality. Numerous temporary exhibitions on a variety of themes are also held here, making it an important cultural hub in the town of Dessau-Roßlau.
