TÖRTEN
Neighborhood featuring 314 housing units built between 1926 and 1928, and a museum retracing their history.
To discover the Bauhaus, you need to stroll through the Törten district, where 314 single-family homes were built between 1926 and 1928 according to the movement's principles. This is the birthplace of contemporary architecture in Europe. A brochure on sale at the museum traces the history of the houses and guides visitors through the district. The district is far from having been museumized, and many of the houses can still be seen abandoned, a legacy of the neglect of the Communist regime and Dessau's loss of vitality after reunification.
