RESIDENZSCHLOSS UND SPIELKARTEN MUSEUM - ALTENBURG CASTLE AND MAP MUSEUM
The former residence of the Dukes of Saxony-Altenburg is a remarkable Baroque building. Its 18th and 19th century interiors have been very well preserved and their visit is worth a visit. Especially since part of the castle has been transformed into a card museum. An opportunity to discover how Altenburg became the capital of Skat, the very popular German game. The game, known here as "Altenburger Spiel", remains one of the most popular in Germany today despite the competition from Anglo-Saxon and French games. The rest of the visit traces the history of the Dukes, who owned one of the most influential courts in middle Germany, first from 1603 to 1672 and then again from 1825 to 1918
