Coming from the airport, before the petrol station, you will pass the Christian cemetery shaded by beautiful frangipani trees where soldiers of the Madagascar expeditionary corps are buried. You will see some tombs of governors of the island and the tomb of Henry de Balzac, younger brother of Honoré, as well as the well-kept square of the Foreign Legion. To see older tombs, head to the site of Bagamoyo (Boulevard des Crabes) where the low tide reveals Muslim tombs from the 10th to the 13th century.
