SANTA MARIA DEL TIGLIO
Church on the lake preserving inside the remains of mosaics and frescoes.
Built around the middle of the 12th century, this magnificent church in grey and white stone, the work of the architects known as Maestri Comacini, is situated on the lakeside, almost with its feet in the water. A masterpiece of Romano-Lombard architecture, it stands on the site of a previous place of worship from the Roman period. Impressive for its roof structure and its amazing eight-sided bell tower, the church preserves inside the remains of mosaics and frescoes from the 13th and 14th centuries. There is also a remarkable Romanesque carved wooden crucifix.
