MAKAH MUSEUM
In 1970, a sea erosion brought out an ancient Indian village buried by a landslide near Cape Alava more than 500 years ago. The 55,000 objects that were found in the 6 excavated houses helped the Makah to recreate their history as fishermen, artists, warriors, seal and whale hunters and basket makers. The Ozette excavations, which began in 1981, were the largest archaeological excavations in North America and lasted 11 years. The museum therefore displays all the objects that have been found and allows visitors to discover the Makah way of life and learn about their culture. A longhouse has even been reconstructed. Extremely informative!
