TOWN HALL
This city hall located on the market place, is one of the most beautiful secular buildings of the country
On the market square stands one of the country's most beautiful secular buildings. Erected between 1452 and 1458, it was almost entirely destroyed by the 1940 bombings, but rebuilt to the original. The façade, dated 1513, is decorated with statuettes of the 25 counts and countesses of Zeeland and Holland. As in the Middle Ages, white and red wooden shutters close the windows and doors (in those days, glass was rare). The Roosevelt Academy is partly housed here. Exhibitions are regularly held here on the Vleeshal side.
