Monument in Niederwald commemorating the unification of the country following the Franco-German war and the creation of the German Empire.
The monument is located on the edge of the Niederwald Park, overlooking the Rhine. At its feet are the vineyards of the Rüdesheim mountain. The monument was decided in 1871, following the Franco-German war and the creation of the German Empire, to commemorate the unification of the country. Since 2002, the Niederwald monument has been a Unesco World Heritage Site. Go to the center of Rüdesheim where there is a cable car to the building. The view of the Rhine from the top is breathtaking. For those who like to walk, the Rheinsteig hiking trail from Biebrich Castle to Bonn passes through here.
