LE CHÂTEAU D'EHRENFELS
Ruins of a castle built in 1210, of which only the surrounding wall and two corner towers remain, located in Rudesheim.
Ehrenfels Castle is a hillside ruin west of Rüdesheim on the Rhine. From the boat, you can admire it, as it is located on the bank, on the steep slope of the Rüdesheim mountain, which includes some of the best vineyards in Germany. Of the former castle built in 1210, only the 20-meter-high wall with its two 33-meter-high corner towers, as well as the remains of the palace and a gate, remain. Since 2002, Ehrenfels Castle is part of the Unesco World Heritage of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley. Due to the nesting of peregrine falcons, the ruins can only be visited from the outside.
