VALKHOF PARK
A pleasant park, in English style and built according to the plans of Zocher, with many attractions and relics in Nijmegen.
The park stands on the site of a residence built by Charlemagne, which was known as the "Falcon Tower" because his son Louis the Debonair kept falcons here for hunting. The palace, rebuilt by Emperor Frederick Barbarossa in the 12th century, was destroyed in the 18th century. The park, with its many attractions and relics, is very pleasant. It was built around 1800 in the English style, according to plans by Zocher, who together with his son designed Amsterdam's famous Vondelpark.
