KEUKENHOF
A vast English-style park covering almost 32 hectares, where you can admire 6 million bulbs during the tulip season
This vast English-style park covers almost 32 hectares. At the end of a perspective bursting with color, you can catch a glimpse of Keukenhof Castle, the former residence of Jacqueline of Bavaria, rebuilt in the 17th century (not open to the public). The park's floral creations, with their 6 million bulbs, are well worth a visit in tulip season. At that time, their infinite variety and sumptuousness make it easy to understand the craze and speculative madness that these flowers were the object of from the 17th century onwards.
Keukenhof also features themed gardens, exhibition pavilions and outdoor artworks. Visitors can enjoy walks or boat trips along the canals, rent bicycles, admire the many flower arrangements and take part in special events organized throughout the season, from March to May.
The park has several food courts, where you can sample Dutch specialties while enjoying the view over the gardens. For children, there are playgrounds, a maze and a mini-farm on site, making the park an ideal destination for families.
In addition to tulips, Keukenhof features a wide variety of flowers including daffodils, hyacinths, lilies, roses, carnations and orchids. Each year, a different theme inspires the new floral arrangements. A real tourist attraction, the site is crowded all season long.
