GOUDA MUSEUM
Museum with a chapel that exhibits icons from the church of St. John, which escaped the serious iconoclastic crisis in the Netherlands
Behind the St. Janskerk church is the entrance to a former hospice that has been converted into the city's museum. The museum's oldest exhibits date back to the 14th century. The chapel displays icons from the Church of St. John, which escaped the severe iconoclastic crisis in the Netherlands (the destruction of religious images, the worship of which was considered pagan heresy). Other rooms feature works by Jan Steen and Ferdinand Bol (the golden 17th century) and paintings by the French Barbizon school on the second floor.
