HUNG SHING TEMPLE
This temple, built in 1889, is now a listed monument and has been awarded a UNESCO prize
Hung Shing Temple is a listed Hong Kong monument. Dedicated to Hung Shing, protective deity of fishermen and sailors, this temple dates from the XIXᵉ century and bears witness to the importance of maritime beliefs in the region. Nestled in lush natural surroundings, it can be reached after a 40-minute walk from the pier. Its architecture is typical of small village temples, and its exposure to the violent weather that regularly strikes the island explains why it has had to be renovated many times since its foundation.
