SULPHUR MOUTAIN - BANFF GONDOLA
Mount Sulphur, whose peak at 2,285 meters offers a superb panorama, accessible by cable car or by hiking.
Two options are available to you so that you can hike up and down Sulphur Mountain (2,285-metre peak) and contemplate the superb panorama where the Rockies are revealed in all their splendour:
Cable car. The Banff Gondola cabins make it possible to reach the summit of Sulphur Mountain in only 8 minutes. The route is accessible to people with reduced mobility and allows you to enjoy the gentle ascent from the base of Banff Gondola. The contrast of the landscape towards the alpine tundra is impressive. The observation platform has just been completely refurbished and numerous explanatory panels are scattered at every corner of the panoramic viewpoint to explain this or that natural phenomenon in the surrounding area. Footbridges allow to observe different points of view over a total length of one kilometre, and to see the old cosmic ray station (!). This popular activity is a must in Banff National Park (13 million visitors each year)! It is possible to eat at the summit (from $7 to $30 CDN). A small interpretation centre is open to all at the top! Remember to dress warmly.
Hiking. From Hot Springs, 11.4 km walk, about 4 hours. A committed hike, with a significant difference in altitude, that will lead you to the finish point of Banff Gondola. You can also take the cable car back down for half price.
