SULPHUR MOUTAIN - BANFF GONDOLA
Mount Sulphur, whose peak at 2,285 meters offers a superb panorama, accessible by cable car or by hiking.
There are two options for climbing Sulphur Mountain (2,285 m) and admiring the magnificent panorama of the Rockies in all their splendor:
Cable car. The Banff Gondola cabins take you to the summit of Sulphur Mountain in just 8 minutes. The ride is accessible to people with reduced mobility, and allows you to enjoy the gentle climb from the base of the Banff Gondola. The contrast between the landscape and the alpine tundra is impressive. The observation platform was completely refurbished in 2022, and numerous explanatory panels are scattered around every corner of the panoramic viewpoint to explain the various natural phenomena in the area. Footbridges allow you to observe different viewpoints over a total length of one kilometer, and to see the former cosmic ray study station (!). This popular activity is a must in Banff National Park! Food and drink are available at the summit (Sky Bistro and Northern Lights Alpine Kitchen). A small interpretation center is open to all at the summit! Remember to dress warmly.
Hiking. From Hot Springs, 11.4 km hike, approx. 4 hours. It's a challenging hike, with a significant vertical drop, that will take you to the finish point of the Banff Gondola. You can take the cable car back down for half price.
