WILL ROGERS SHRINE OF THE SUN
This commemorative tower, inscribed in the Register of Historic Sites, is located on Cheyenne Mountain and houses a chapel. She was named as a tribute to the humorist Will Rogers who lost his life in an airplane crash in Alaska in 1935 during the construction of the sanctuary. The site hosts the remains of the philanthropist Spencer Penrose, who built many sites in Colorado Springs including the nearby Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and the Broadmoor site. In 1937, an observatory 30 meters from the ground was added and offers a breathtaking view of the Broadmoor, Colorado Springs and Garden of the Gods.
