CLYFFORD STILL MUSEUM
Clyfford Still is considered to be one of the greatest American artists in the twentieth century and the precursor of the abstract expressionist movement. When he died in 1980, he wished to have a museum entirely dedicated to his art, and Denver is going to host such an establishment. However, the artist has no special connection with Colorado (apart from a small stay in the city of Boulder that he did during his teaching career) but Denver is the only city to accept the deal: create a museum entirely to its effigy in exchange for the donation of the whole of its work. Today, 90% of his works are located in the Denver Museum. Among the 830 paintings exposed, many are inspired by the great masters that Clyfford Still admires: Léonard de Vinci, Rembrandt, Vincent Van Gogh, Max Ernst and Pablo Picasso, and a large part of the exhibition brings together its productions with original works. It is fun to admire differences and similarities: you will observe that if some paintings leave no doubt about their influences, for others the rapprochement with original works is less obvious…
