Larimer Square is a block of Victorian buildings located on Larimer Street between the 14 th and 15 th Streets. It is one of the oldest districts of the city. During the day, you'll enjoy walking through the beautiful buildings of the day, in the evening the Guirlands give romantic air on the street which becomes the favorite place for visitors and premises for dinner or drink. Larimer Square's story dates back to the time of the gold rush. General Larimer built the first residence of the city with doors made of coffins. In 1860, a fire devastated a large part of Denver whose buildings were predominantly wooden. Larimer is one of the only streets escaping destruction. Following this, many emblematic buildings are built like the Kettle Arcade (arcade built between two existing buildings, using neighboring structures as support) or the Clayton College in Denver (originally intended for poor orphans). But after the money crisis, Denver, in the image of Colorado, had a period of depression and in the 1950 s Larimer Square, with 46 bars, 57 pensions, 17 pledge lenders and 22 second hand shops, seems doomed to destruction. Dana Hudkins Crawford (known for his renovation and heritage protection) forms the Larimer Associates to give the historic quarter a second life. Since the late 1950 s, the buildings have been renovated, new ones even come to light (such as the Noel Building which hosts the Capital Grid) and the street attracts the chefs and the best restaurants in the city.
