THE CONRAD/CALDWELL HOUSE-MUSEUM
Also known as Conrad's Castle, The Conrad/Caldwell House is one of the most beautiful houses in the Old Louisville neighbourhood. This Richardson style mansion (name of the great American architect Henry Hobson Richardson, 1838-1886) was built for Théophile Conrad, a French who made fortune in the tanning industry. On his death, in 1905, the Caldwell family bought the manor. She lived there 35 years before a nurse resumed her and occupied her for 40 years. It was the St. James Court District Association that bought the manor in 1987, which restored it, and now operates it as a museum house. See for its facades and gargoyles, but also for its exceptional interior, furniture and decoration.
