OLD WHALING CHURCH
Church erected in 1843, considered one of the finest examples of this architectural style in New England
Erected in 1843 in the Greek Revival style, this church is considered one of the finest examples of this architectural style in New England. It was built for and by the whaling captains of the Methodist community, from which it takes its name. The church is a testament to the wealth that the whaling industry brought to the island. Its beautiful white facade, as befits Martha's Vineyard, and an impressive organ inside, can be admired. The church is surmounted by the town's Gothic-style bell tower.
